What is Skijoring?

Well, it’s sort of like water skiing/wakeboarding, except the skier is on snow and towed by a horse and rider instead of a boat. The Skier is pulled through a course with rings that the skier tries to grab and gates that they must go around. The skier works as a team with the horse and rider to get through the course for a time. Missed rings or gates add a time penalty to the run.

Skijoring originated in Scandinavia as a practical means of transportation during the winter months. Instead of a horse and rider, the skier would drive the horse from behind, similar to how a team pulls a sleigh.

Wyoming winters are long, giving us plenty of time to dream up new ideas. We have taken our own fun twist on this activity, adding in a western saddle, a cowgirl or cowboy, and a rope to tug the skier with. Its made for one heck of a good time!

The Experience

Located a short 5-minute walk from the base of the Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

After checking in and claiming your reservation, climb aboard the sleigh, and our trusty team will take you for a short ride to the skijoring course. Hang out by the fire and relax while you cheer on your friends and await your turn. Each person is pulled for two runs. Once through the left-hand course, and another time through the right-hand course. Or for two tugs through the tubing course if you are not a skier. Snacks are provided to thank your horse for the pull. After everyone has completed their runs, we will load back up in the sleigh and return to where we departed from.
